Postive Media Relations for School Marketing

Sunday, October 25, 2009

Schools need to develop positive relations with the media as part of their school marketing strategy.

Having the media work for you is a real advantage.

Having the media not work against you is another advantage.

Most media outlets want to work with schools to portray positive stories to their readers concerning schools. These are the feel-good stories, which sell newspapers, television and radio time. This builds the media’s advertising base, hence profits. They are also seen as good community advocates.

This positive relationship doesn’t just happen. The School Marketing Manager (SMM), in particular, needs to develop this relationship in a number of ways. These include contact with journalists, good media releases, advertising with them and the availability of the SMM to the media outlet.

Schools need to develop positive relations with the media as part of their school marketing plan written by Bryan Foster.

School Marketing Website and e-Handbook

Friday, October 23, 2009
The school marketing website, SMA - School Marketing, and a school marketing e-handbook, are two very special and quite unique resourcers for the school marketing professional and others charged with marketing schools.

Both these resources were developed this year, 2009.

The school marketing website, SMA, was developed to be an interactive school marketing website, with special emphasis on the highly informative School Marketing Blogs, School Marketing Hints and Tips and School Marketing News webpages. All three webpages are regularly updated and are also available as RSS feeds. Viewers are encouraged to also offer feedback to each Blog.

The 'School Marketing e-Handbook: Easy to Use Guide to Market Your School' is a 180+ A4 sized page electronic text written in an easy to read and implement summarised points' format. The text is easily downloaded from the website's School Marketing Online Shop.

School Marketing - Statistical Data Support

Saturday, October 17, 2009
Definite trends would often emerge when statistical data evidence of school marketing successes is explored within each school.

At my school, the evidence for school marketing ,when viewed over the past 6 years, showed a definite trend.

The trend showed that:

* when sufficent expenditure occurred, first year enrolment numbers to the school either improved or were maintained.

* when decreases in expenditure on school marketing occurred, the following year's enrolment intakes dropped.

* when school marketing expenditure increased again, the enrolments increased also.
